There is a perception that Downtown Wilmington is unsafe, dirty and filled with panhandlers and bums. The fact is that Downtown Wilmington is one of the safest communities in all of Delaware. We very much realize that until we rehab the buildings, bring new business and residents that negative perception will continue. Downtown is changing, we see it from the street every day – the buzz of a fresh, young, professional, academic and artistic community of Downtowners. There is exciting nightlife along with the energy of new businesses opening. To continue this work and speed up the process, we need your help.
We’re Downtown Visions, charged with transforming Downtown Wilmington through our non-profit Main Street Wilmington Program which is certified by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Main Street Wilmington addresses not only saving historic buildings, but also small business recruitment, business marketing and promotion along with the creation of new jobs.
Look What We've Done
You can see it up & down Market Street as we have removed the unsightly exterior roll down gates and restored the facades to their original beauty. This has brought new businesses and new excitement. It has created a sense of community that is growing.
All these activities are only made possible by people like you, who understand how important a strong Downtown Wilmington is to all of Delaware. Matching funds provide both the motivation and wherewithal to help downtown projects achieve their potential. The result: an inviting downtown with more thriving businesses and more upstairs apartments to attract new residents.
